Games offer a lot of varied stuff that many people value. It can be a way to pass time. It can be a way to grow. It can be a way to feel less lonely. It can be a catharsis for your emotions and existence. It can be fun.

Don't underestimate the word ‘fun’. It is very difficult to give the word any concrete meaning and is remains abstract. Fun is personal. For some people it is fun to get horrified. For others it is the opposite. And so on. You could even say that what is fun to a person is what they find valuable.

In my opinion, games are fun because they allow you to grow, which is a basic need of everyone. This is because at the core, games are challenges. Playfulness is just another word for curiosity or growth. There is even a well known book called homoludens, a play on the word homosapiens. Luden means play. It says that our defining trait isn't wisdom but playfulness.

A game can also answer other fundamental human needs such as being social and being respected. In real life you may have a job nobody cares about but in world of war craft you have friendships with people who respect you for your achievements.

In my opinion reality is an illusion. Why not take the only thing you know to be true: your awareness, and put it in a new reality that answers your deepest needs. Don't be a slave to our universe, just do what you really want.
